Vaccines play a crucial role in the body to defend against pathogens i.e., viruses and bacteria.

In vaccination, the body is exposed to a safe amount of weakened or killed pathogens. Rabies disease is transmitted through a virus, and transmission of this virus takes place via saliva, scratching, or blood of the contaminated host.

what is rabies?

Rabies is a viral infection that attacks the gray matter in the brain of dogs and as well as the central nervous system.

Rabies is a fast-moving viral disease that affects the gray matter in the brain of dogs and as well as the central nervous system. Rabies virus is a single-stranded RNA virus. Rabies can also be transmitted to cats. The development of rabies virus takes 10-30 days but usually less than ten days. The rabies virus enters the brain through nerve cells, and once the infection has begun in mind, it will multiply there. Multiplication of rabies virus leads to inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, ultimately resulting in death. Death can occur five days after the appearance of symptoms. The dog which is contaminated with the rabies virus is termed as a rabid dog. The risk of transmission of rabies in dogs is high if the dog comes in contact with wild animals.

Types of Rabies in dogs

Two types of rabies are present in dogs, paralytic and furious.Dogs may exhibit one type of rabies or show both kinds of disease.

Paralytic Rabies

It is also called as dumb rabies. It can be described by weakness, lack of coordination, and ultimately leading to paralysis. inflammation is more intense in paralytic rabies than that of Furious Rabies.

Diagnosis of Rabies

Diagnosis of Rabies is much harder because tissues of the brain require a direct fluorescent antibody test for its determination. Hence it can be done only after the death of dogs.

Care must be taken when your dog is in a fight with another dog because it can result in a return of rabies virus even if your dog was administered a vaccine earlier. The owner of the pet can consult a veterinarian if he doesn’t know the status of the administration of the vaccine for his pet.

Chances Of A Vaccinated Dog Getting Rabies

Vaccinated dogs can develop the disease because vaccination doesn’t guarantee 100% protection. So, dogs should be placed under observation after treating. Dogs are vaccinated between the age of 3 to 6 months. If a dog is supplied with a high-quality vaccine, then it will reduce the chances of development of rabies in dogs.

In some cases, dogs got rabies after vaccination, but mostly when dogs were vaccinated with effective vaccines, then it will not be possible for dogs to catch the disease.

Vaccines keep dogs safe from rabies for a year with each vaccine, so it is required to get your dog vaccinated after a year. Vaccination will follow you, community, and your dog safe.

The range of incubation period of the virus of rabies varies from a few days to years, three to eight weeks.
