Flying in cabin

Fully-trained service animals and psychiatric service animals can fly in the cabin free of cost if they meet the requirements.

Emotional support service animals

Emotional support service animals, aid individuals with emotional or cognitive disabilities.

Advanced notice and approval are mandatory to bring an emotional support service animal with you in the cabin.

Trained service animals

Trained service animals should be specifically trained to perform life functions for individuals with disabilities, including but not limited to:

  • Visual impairments
  • Deafness
  • Seizures
  • Mobility impairments

They encourage advanced notice for service animals, but it isn't required. They also recommend that you should travel with current vaccination documentation for your animal.

Terms required for transporting each type of animal differ, employees can ask certain questions to determine the classification applicable to your animal.

Requirements to travel with an emotional support dog

  • one emotional support service animal per person
  • Cats and dogs are generally acceptable as service and support animals; any other animals must fulfill the requirement of US Department of Transportation for health and safety along with documentation of the animal's latest vaccination records and may not cause significant cabin disruption
  • Animal should be clean and with good behavior
  • Animal should be able to fit at your feet, under your seat or in your lap
  • Final approval for travel will not be allowed until you arrive at the airport, and it is confirmed that the animal will be fit at your feet safely.
  • If the animal is in enclosure, it must fit under the seat in front of you with the animal in it.

Animals may not:

  • Be seated in an exit row
  • Protrude into or block aisles
  • Occupy a seat
  • Eat from tray tables

Animal behavior

Animals must be trained to behave correctly in public and they will not be permitted in the cabin if they show any disruptive behavior that is out of control, such as:

  • snarling
  • Biting
  • Jumping on the people

Emotional support service animals must be in your control at all times by leash, harness, or both.

If this behavior is observable at any point during your journey and isn't controlled, the animal will be considered as a pet and all requirements and applicable fees will apply.

Advance notice required

To travel with an emotional support service animal in the cabin, you should submit all the required forms including ESA letter to the Special Assistance Desk before 48 hours of your flight. You will be notified about the document approval within these hours.

If you could not meet all the requirements, your animal may be able to fly as a pet. All applicable fees apply.

An emotional support animal letter is known as an ESA letter is a document that ensures mentally or emotionally disability and states that you acquire therapeutic benefits from the ESA.

Who can write ESA support letter

There are numerous psychiatrists in every city almost – any one of them can prescribe an ESA letter. Any other mental health professional that has license can prescribe an emotional support animal letter.
